Our backcountry mountain biking hut offers three food package options to suit your preferences and budget. All packages are designed to provide the energy you need for exciting days on the trails while enjoying the comfort of our mountain retreat.

Special Order & Beverage Options

Alcoholic Beverage Service

Lost Wonder Hut is pleased to offer alcohol transportation service for our guests. Due to our remote backcountry location, all alcoholic beverages must be pre-ordered and paid for in advance.

How It Works:

  1. Indicate your alcohol preferences when booking
  2. We’ll purchase your selected items and transport them to the hut
  3. Your beverages will be waiting for you upon arrival
  4. All alcohol charges will be added to your final bill

  • Spirits (whiskey, vodka, tequila)

Please Note:

  • All guests consuming alcohol must be 21+

In addition to our standard menu packages, we’re happy to accommodate requests for specialty food items. If there’s something specific you’d like to enjoy during your stay, we can often arrange for it to be transported to the hut.

Budget Package ($45/person/day)

Our Budget Package provides all the essentials for a satisfying backcountry experience, featuring simple yet tasty meals with minimal preparation.

Below are examples of how to prepare some of our most popular dishes at the hut.

Budget Package Recipes

Simple Pancakes Ingredients:

  • 1 cup just-add-water pancake mix
  • Water as directed on package
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup

Instructions:

  1. Add water to pancake mix in a bowl and stir until just combined
  2. Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium heat
  3. Pour batter onto the pan in small circles
  4. Flip when bubbles form on surface
  5. Cook until golden brown on both sides
  6. Serve with maple syrup

Backcountry Pasta Alfredo Ingredients:

  • 1 package Knorr Pasta Sides – Alfredo
  • 1 can chicken (5 oz)
  • 1/2 cup freeze-dried vegetables
  • Pinch of garlic powder and pepper

Instructions:

  1. Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a pot
  2. Add pasta and contents of seasoning packet
  3. Reduce heat and simmer for 7-8 minutes, stirring occasionally
  4. Stir in drained chicken and rehydrated vegetables
  5. Add garlic powder and pepper to taste
  6. Remove from heat and let stand 2 minutes before serving

Standard Package Recipes

Mountain Scramble Ingredients:

  • 2 servings egg crystals
  • 2 oz shelf-stable bacon
  • 1 serving dehydrated hash browns
  • 2 English muffins
  • 1 oz shelf-stable cheese
  • Salt, pepper, and herbs to taste

Instructions:

  1. Rehydrate hash browns according to package directions
  2. Heat a small amount of oil in a pan
  3. Cook hash browns until crispy
  4. Reconstitute egg crystals according to package directions
  5. Pour eggs over hash browns
  6. Add crumbled bacon and cheese
  7. Scramble until eggs are set
  8. Season with salt, pepper, and herbs
  9. Serve with toasted English muffins

Backcountry Chili with Cornbread Ingredients:

  • 1 package dehydrated chili mix
  • 1 package cornbread mix
  • 2 oz shelf-stable cheddar cheese
  • 1 small can green chilies

Instructions:

  1. Prepare chili according to package directions
  2. While chili is cooking, prepare cornbread batter
  3. Add green chilies to cornbread batter
  4. Cook cornbread in a covered pan with some oil in the bottom
  5. Top chili with shredded cheese
  6. Serve chili with cornbread on the side

Premium Package Recipes

Herb-Marinated Grilled Chicken Ingredients:

  • 2 marinated chicken breasts
  • 1 bell pepper
  • 1 zucchini
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Fresh herbs
  • 1 cup rice
  • Coconut milk
  • Garlic and onion
  • Olive oil, salt, and pepper

Instructions:

  1. Start rice: combine 1 cup rice with 1 cup water and 1/2 cup coconut milk
  2. Bring to a boil, then simmer covered until liquid is absorbed
  3. Slice vegetables into large pieces for grilling
  4. Toss vegetables with olive oil, salt, and pepper
  5. Grill chicken breasts until internal temperature reaches 165°F
  6. Grill vegetables until tender
  7. Serve chicken over coconut rice with grilled vegetables
  8. Garnish with fresh herbs

Pan-Seared Steak with Mushrooms and Potatoes Ingredients:

  • 2 steak cuts (6-8 oz each)
  • 8 oz mushrooms
  • 1/2 lb potatoes
  • Fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 onion
  • Olive oil, salt, and pepper
  • Artisanal cheese for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Dice potatoes into small cubes
  2. Boil potatoes until nearly tender
  3. Slice mushrooms, mince garlic, dice onion
  4. Heat oil in a pan, add potatoes and cook until crispy
  5. Remove potatoes, set aside and keep warm
  6. Season steaks with salt and pepper
  7. Sear steaks in hot pan to desired doneness
  8. Remove steaks, let rest
  9. In same pan, sauté mushrooms, garlic, and onions

Vegetarian & Vegan Specialties

Vegetarian Mushroom Risotto Ingredients:

  • Fresh mushrooms (8 oz)
  • Fresh vegetables (bell peppers, zucchini)
  • Arborio rice
  • White wine reduction (if requested)
  • Fresh herbs
  • Garlic and onion
  • High-quality olive oil
  • Artisanal hard cheese
  • Fresh bread

Instructions:

  1. Sauté diced onion and garlic in olive oil until translucent
  2. Add sliced mushrooms and cook until they release their moisture
  3. Add Arborio rice and toast lightly
  4. Add white wine (if using) and stir until absorbed
  5. Gradually add hot water, stirring frequently

Cooking Tips for Backcountry Meals

  1. One-Pot Wonders: Whenever possible, create meals that can be prepared in a single pot to minimize cleanup.
  2. Pre-Measure Ingredients: For multi-ingredient recipes, pre-measure and store together in ziplock bags.
  3. Cooking Times at Altitude: Water boils at a lower temperature at higher elevations. Increase cooking times for items that need to be boiled (pasta, rice, etc.).
  4. Prep Ahead: Do any chopping or mixing before setting out on the day’s ride to save time in the evening.
  5. Altitude Effects on Baking: Reduce leavening agents slightly when baking at high altitudes.
  6. Shelf Life: Even in cool mountain temperatures, treat all fresh foods with care.
  7. Cold Soaking: For extremely energy-efficient meals, some foods can be prepared by cold soaking (adding cold water and letting sit) rather than cooking.
